Roseneath Theatre announces our 28th Season 2011/12
Roseneath Theatre 2011-2012 Season
Roseneath Theatre is proud to announce our 2011/2012 season, dedicated to our founding artistic director, playwright David S. Craig. We’re excited to welcome incoming artistic director Andrew Lamb in August for this exciting season, which highlights the power of friendship and imagination.
Back for its 10th anniversary, Craig’s Danny King of the Basement is Roseneath’s best loved and most known work. The play will tour Ontario schools and US theatres, in addition to making a special visit to Alaska along the way. Recommended for students in grades 3 to 8, Danny is a story of childhood poverty told with humour and hope. Roseneath is currently booking Ontario schools for this tour.
Winter 2012 will bring the Canadian premier of Craig’s stage adaptation of The Neverending Story, based on Michael Ende’s classic novel of the same name. We’re excited to be part of the newly renamed Young People’s Theatre season with The Neverending Story and equally enthusiastic about taking the show to the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. This epic adventure story is Roseneath’s most ambitious production to date and is recommended for grades 3 to 8.
In the spring, we’re thrilled to be presenting Green Thumb Theatre’s production of Jamie Norris’s 500 Words. An unlikely friendship forms between a grade three student and her grade six tutor, and from it both children discover a wealth of possibilities that were not possible alone. 500 Words is appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Roseneath will continue to explore works for high school students this season through the development of David S. Craig’s Tough Case. Tough Case is an exploration of Restorative Justice, a process that aims to offer alternatives to our traditional criminal justice system. A young man is charged with a horrible crime only to be offered the chance to make amends for his actions and help his community and family heal in the process. Tough Case is scheduled for readings and will tour to GTA high schools in the spring.
