Meet Cute is a story about Jane and John who meet at a bus stop — could there be romance? The show explores their conversation in three different ways using the same text. One scene. Two actors. Three possibilities. Because the text is repeated in each scenario, the focus shifts from behaviour to context and finally to intention. Meet Cute speaks to the notion of consent and explores not only what you say, but HOW you say it.

Note from the playwright Erin Norah Thompson: I’m very excited by the idea of developing “Meet Cute: High School Edition” with Roseneath Theatre. I think the message regarding consent and the behaviours attached to it will be very relevant for teenagers as they begin to embark on romantic attachments and adult relationships. Working with Roseneath also provides a wonderful opportunity to formalize the Q&A, and create discussion facilitation tools for teachers and students to work with as they discuss the show, and are able to develop their own personal tools for making sure they are not only soliciting consent, but are able to find ways to extract themselves when they realize that their lack of consent is not being heard.
