Our 2014-2015 season explores the notion of empathy, giving young people perspective through four high-quality pieces of professional theatre. The Money Tree – which will be touring during Financial Literacy Month in November, follows the story of Shasta whose father has lost his job. La Maleta (The Suitcase) – focuses on Refugees and Immigration through the experience of Roca who must flee her home country and move to Canada. Spirit Horse – which originally premiered at the LuminaTO Festival, follows the story of two young Aboriginal sisters struggling with their home life and trying to reconcile this with their own culture and traditions. And our last show of the season is Outside – which addresses Gay Straight Alliances and follows the story of Daniel, a teen who triumphs over homophobic bullying, depression and suicide. Empathy plays a major role in each of these productions giving students and opportunity to step outside of themselves and understand more deeply another perspective.
We are thrilled to be producing two world premieres for the first time in our company’s history as well as working in collaboration with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and returning to venues all across the United States.
