The Board and Staff of Roseneath Theatre cordially invite you to lend your support to the company’s ‘NEXT BIG SHOW’ – our 3rd annual Performance Showcase Fundraiser.  A great chance to sample the fine theatre that Roseneath is known for and to enjoy the afternoon with friends & family — all while supporting our mission to bring the best in live theatre to an impressive 100,000 young people each season.

Join us for a fun-filled family-friendly afternoon, anchored by a special performance of Bea Pizano’s LA MALETA (THE SUITCASE) – a charming and powerful play currently on tour throughout Ontario, directed by Artistic Director Andrew Lamb. Hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served, and the young ones can test their creative mettle at our ‘La Maleta-Themed Kid’s Craft Table’.

And, for those of you who want to give, give and GIVE MORE … there will be an array of items to bid on in our Live & Silent Auctions, from Fine Art and Sports Tickets to Weekend Getaways and Sizzling Toronto Night-Outs. Think of it as a chance to ‘shop with heart’, with all proceeds benefiting Roseneath Theatre.

The afternoon will be rounded out by two special announcements: attendees will be the very first to hear what’s in store for the upcoming year, as Andrew shares details of Roseneath’s 2014-15 Lineup, which promises to be one of the biggest offerings in our company’s history; and we will bestow the Rosie Award on a lucky individual, in recognition of outstanding volunteer contribution.

About the Play

LA MALETA (THE SUITCASE) follows the story of Roca, a ten-year old refugee, who escapes her native Colombia clutching her suitcase – inside which she believes her grandmother is hiding. Struggling to adapt to a new city, a new school and a new way of life, Roca befriends Paz. Opening the suitcase, the two embark on an adventure that gives Roca the courage, hope and strength to adapt to her new home. Says Pizano of Roseneath’s decision to program LA MALETA: “I do believe that Roseneath and Andrew have made a bold choice with this story.  You are going to have a great impact on the lives of many of our refugees.  They are going to feel like they matter.”
