Roseneath announces its 2012-2013 Season!

In our 29th year of theatre for young audiences, Roseneath Theatre is pleased to announce our 2012/13 Season focusing on the theme of Self Discovery. Check out the video below to see our Artistic Director, Andrew Lamb, talk about the upcoming season.

Self discovery is the process of learning more about yourself and who you are, and each production in our season presents this to a unique young audience. Wrecked (Grades 7 – 12) addresses how our parents’ struggles play a role in our personal development of self, Spirit Horse (Grades 4–8) invites us to look into our past and personal heritage to discover where we’ve come from in moving forward, and exploring sexual and racial politics In This World (Grades 9 – 12) examines how friendships as well as beliefs developed during our teens shape our choices and who we are as people.

Wrecked by Chris Craddock begins our season with an Ontario and GTA tour from October 29 – December 7, 2012. Wrecked tackles the issues of alcohol abuse in the lives of teenagers and their families with intelligent humor, subversive wit and candid reality. In 2006 Wrecked was awarded TYA Dora Awards for Outstanding Production and Performance as well as the last Canada Council for the Arts TYA prize. Returning to this remount is director Richard Greenblatt, set and costume designer Joanne Dente and sound designer Rick Sacks.

Spirit Horse by Drew Hayden Taylor, our second remount is based on the Irish play Tir Na N’Og by Greg Banks. This production will tour Southern Ontario schools from January – June 2013. Spirit Horse is the story of two First Nations children who travel through time with a mystical Spirit Horse, a present from their grandfather. Roseneath premiered Spirit Horse at Toronto’s Luminato Festival in 2007 featuring. Since then there have been three Ontario tours and one North American tour.

In This World by Hannah Moscovitch is our new production that includes a week-long residency as part of the season at Tarragon Theatre. The production will be touring Ontario and GTA high schools from March 25 – May 10, 2013. In This World is Hannah’s first play for young audiences and is a complex exploration of race, class and sex as experienced by two urban, contemporary girls in high school. This production will be directed by Artistic Director Andrew Lamb and will feature the set and costume designs of Lindsay Anne Black as well as sound design by Verne Good.
